The Renaissance Project is a chorus that specializes primarily in Renaissance
motets and also performs other Renaissance pieces and a cappella music of similar aesthetic.
There are many unique features to The Renaissance Project. We rehearse without accompaniment and we
often sing in the round in mixed formation with the result that each member of the group feels more like
a soloist and is more aware of their relationship to the other parts.
Members of the group give presentations on historical information to the group, and contribute
their scholarly expertise to the rehearsals. In short, although The Renaissance Project is a
conducted ensemble, there is a high amount of member participation.
Membership in the group includes amateur singers from Boulder and other
surrounding cities (including Golden, Aurora, Denver, and Westminster). The group also offers fellowships to four "singing fellows" drawn from
the voice and choral music departments at the University of Colorado.
Arthur Bragg started The Renaissance Project in the summer of 2007 to meet the needs of Boulder-area choral singers who wanted to sing in a smaller group without orchestra during the summer months. The first summer session was so successful that the group
now sings year-round.
In September 2009 The Renaissnance Project was awarded its first grant - an Addison Mini-Grant obtained through the Boulder County Arts Alliance. In
November 2009 the group acquired non-profit status through the Boulder Count Arts Alliance.
